Opening a Digital only bank account

Hi, I’m wanting to open a new current account and am currently trying Starling Bank but they ask for ID the problem is I’m 79 and my passport is way out of date and I don’t have an I’d card or driving license. Are there any other digital banks that allow out of date passports or letters, bank cards as forms of I.D.

I actually wanted to switch using the uswtch thing but my hsbc current account has been blocked and can’t be unblocked until I go into a branch with ID but due to not being mobile I can’t do what they ask so I think opening a different account is my only option.

[STRIKE]You might be able to open an account online at another High Street Bank or at Nationwide without having to provide additional ID, if they can find you on the electoral register and on credit reference agency sites. However, there is always a possibility that they ask you for additional ID, at the time of application or at a later stage, and none of them would accept an out-of-date passport or driving licence. All banks have lists of acceptable ID documents on their websites.

You also won't be able to unblock an account by requesting a switch.

So it seems your only options are to get a valid ID. You might also be able to give a trusted person a third party mandate, to authorise them to use your bank account on your behalf. Whether they'd be able to unblock the HSBC account for you much depends on why HSBC have blocked the account in the first instance.[/STRIKE]

EDIT: Having just looked back over some of your other posts, please ignore all I said above as your stories don't add up. Perhaps ask your 78 year old mother whether she can help her 79 year old son?
  • I was asking on behalf of my mother, seemed easier to just ask it like I did, with hindsight however, not so good. Although my username petethesteam I am in fact a 42 year old woman. I apologise for misleading you guys, it wasn’t my intention, just needed some answers quickly. Petethesteam is a reference to my father

When you open a bank account with Monzo, we don’t ask you for proof of address because we verify your date of birth instead.

    What do I need?

To open an account, you just need one of the following:

    Passport
    Driving licence (provisional is fine)
    National ID card
    Other government issued photo ID

And you’ll also need an address in the UK where we can send your debit card.

  • Does she not have proof of ID with a letter from the Government Pension Department, Council tax, Bank statements. Water bill. Contact them and ask them what they accept besides above listed.
Why would you want to open a current account with them when they pay such miserly rates.

current account balances. 0.5% AER up to £2,000 and 0.25% up to £85,000, to be precise.

From a previous post under this user name...
i'm deaf without a proper text phone and I have mobility issues,

So you must be the daughter of the person posting then. Perhaps you need to read this the thread and help your father out...

And stop sharing the same username....:grouphug::coffee::doh:

is, I believe, a straight 'cut and paste' from a previous thread where it was used as an excuse after being caught out before.
