I wanted to ask, why do allot of people upsize from
A 3 bedroom semi to a 3 bed detached.
We have allot of friends doing this it’s in the same area same schools it doesn’t make any sense to me?

Neighbours.
Going off the number of threads on here complaining about things like neighbour noise im going to go with that.
Why dont you ask them?0 -
We went from a 2 bed semi to a 3 bed detached. The detached isn't that much bigger then the semi but the space is used far better.
The over riding factor though by far was neighbour noise.
Living in our detached house is a whole different world away from living in the semi.0 -
Was the neighbours that bad....
We have neighbours bit noisy but don’t cause any issues at all.
We always thought someone moves from
3 bed semi to say 5 bed detached etx.0 -
Don’t want to come across as rude.0

Yes the noise was horrendous.
We will never live in an attached house again.0 -
We'll be doing this or to a 4 bed if we can, for us it'd be for additional downstairs space like toilet, utility room, extra room or a garage that can be converted to be used as a playroom/4th bedroom. Then potential to extend also without effecting neighbours.0

Some are hung up about being "detached", a badge, a life passage. For others they've just had bad experiences of neighbours and want to minimise that.
Me... I often go the other way. I see a place for sale at absolute top of budget that's detached and needs £10-20k of basic work doing and I think "if ONLY you were a semi I could afford to buy you AND get the necessary work done".0 -
I dont know why so many semis are built with living room and bedrooms next to each other.
If the stairs and probably bathroom & kitchen of each house are next to each other noise to the main living areas will be much minimised0 -
That was part of the problem with our old house, living rooms and bedrooms on the party wall. Although we could hear them running up stairs which were on the opposite side of the house!
It was poor design, 1930's building standards and bad neighbours that have put us off attached houses forever.
We can make as much noise as we like now and not worry about it. We didn't need to worry about using the carpet cleaner at 4am after the dog vomited on the new carpet. In the old house we could not have done that.0 -
Ah it makes sense now.
I see the point.
When we sold our first semi we bought it for
178k sold it for 235k.
However when we told both sides of neighbours who we got along with just fine we was upsizing they got really funny with us for a few weeks before the move.
Anyone else experienced this?
I have no idea why they got funny with us. We had the house
5 years done it up and sold it the first one.0
