Wooden Door Crack?

Options
One year on from fitting a crack has appeared in my wooden door, it has the house on one side and the North facing conservatory on the other.
The manufacturer offers a 10 year guarantee but said i can only go through the place i purchased it from. The Company who sold it to me came out to take some photo's saying it was most likely caused by the heat in my conservatory on sunny days as it's not exposed to the weather.
I told the man i have a wooden door on my porch which is south facing and gets the hottest sun from afternoon onward and after 40 years it has never cracked.
The cracks seems to go from one side to the other which concerns me, i might be overplaying it but i didn't expect this so soon.

I can't really make out the extent of the crack from the photos. It doesn't look that bad but I might be missing something.

Their theory sounds plausible. You probably have got a temperature and perhaps more importantly, a humidity variance between the two sides of the door. Your porch door is probably a different wood of a different age and may be treated/painted differently so is not a reliable standard to compare to.

You need to dig out the guarantee and see what it covers. I suspect it covers things like faulty workmanship or failing fittings. I suspect it won't cover things that arise from environmental conditions and it's possible that it's not an appropriate door for that location. Did you buy it yourself? If so, did you check it was suitable for the location?

Thanks, i did pick it out myself but the wood is Oak M&T construction however as you said yourself maybe the porch door is a different type of wood, i never really gave that much thought. The 10 year Guarantee is for problems and defects although doesn't say much else. I do love the look of the door and purchased it based on looks, this crack goes down the door 7cm on both sides, i was only really worried after realising it was both sides.

My bet would be that humidity (or lack of it) has caused the wood to contract. I suspect it's not a suitable door for the situation you've put it in.

Once we head into autumn, you might find the crack closes up again. Keep an eye on it.
