Options
Paypal charged me 7.5% fee on a sale, any ideas why it was so high.

Item was posted to Reading UK. Buyer registered in UK.

Sent paypal an email and their reply wasn't even close to what I was asking.

If the total was £11.75 including postage and you have a standard account then it should have only been 60p according to the calculator.

That calculator seems a bit off as well, lately I've been getting charged 2.9% + 30p as opposed to 3.4% + 20p that I was getting charged a few months back.

Sorry, I didn't check whether it had changed to the new rates. It should be 2.9% plus 30p.

Those are Paypal's new fees as of the 16th of August.

As far as I know they apply to business accounts.

Had a personal sale yesterday and Paypal took the usual 3.4% plus 20p (well they actually took 68p instead of 64p).

Sometime in the near future eBay's own payment system will come in and it's likely that Paypal goes out the window at that point.

Just to add had a payment of £3.99 on the 26th and they took 42p instead of the usual 34p.

All other payments before that (24th and earlier) seem spot on.

I am not a business and this week I have been charged 2.9% + 30p on all my sales.

A few months I did have a sale of around £12 when I was charged 86 p. When I queried it, Paypal told me that was conversion charge.

The buyer, although registered and residing in UK, had a paypal account registered in a different country. I only sell to UK buyers. But buyers like above, I wouldn't be able to reject.

    2.9% of 11.75 = 34p plus 30p = 64p

Was there an additional postage charge on top of the 11.75 item value?

I suspect an ROW cross border charge.

    2% cb fee on 11.75 = 23.5
    2.9% fee on 11.75 = 34.07
    transaction fee = 30p
Total 87.57 - no doubt rounded up to 88p by Paypal.
