Has there been a better time to switch energy suppliers than now?

I thought we bagged a good deal in April but by looking at the Ofgem data it looks like we are now at the lowest wholesale prices since the recession in 2009.

We have always stayed with Scottish Power rather than going with the tiddlers, especially seeing one or two of these obscure suppliers going bust.

You can get £50 cashback at Scottish Power from the refer board too here

Here are the wholesale charts from Ofgem

There does appear to be some reductions in gas prices to take advantage of.

Gas has been quite a lot lower a few years ago. I remember getting less than 2p/kwh with Sainsburys Energy when they could offer lower rates than the parent BG. i think I paid 1.8p/kwh for gas on a special offer which came up briefly and switched from BG exit fee free. That was my lowest gas price. Now I have just fixed for the year at 2.92 p/kwh 15 p DSC
Then again I remember all BG s gas prepayment meters back in 2004 ish when they were all fixed at around 5 p /kwh and 30 p a day standing charges. The prepayment meters back then were unsubsidised and were charged the true market price for prepayment meters with their extra running costs.
I can only see electricity prices going ever upwards as cheap efficient coal fired power stations have gone and we import woodchip biomass from USA and rely on expensive wind and solar and nuclear power..
I ve just got a years electric fix at 12 p/kwh , 15 p a day with Symbio Energy. That was the lowest I could find a month ago in my area. Can anyone beat that for the latest electric prices from August .?
