Help with faulty car

Haven’t posted before so sorry if this is in the wrong place or seems a little muddled...Looking for some advice for my son please. Very briefly...
Bought a car on Finance end of Feb. Put down £2000 deposit.
Car had few problems, lights on, auto stop start not working etc and picked up 2 days later. Fixed.
2 weeks later same ‘service’lights flashing up and was take back and fixed again.
4 weeks later completely broke down. Went into limp mode.
They had the car for a further 5 weeks and returned to us fixed. It was the ECU in the car so they replaced that. Bill for £900 but they paid.
Then approx 2 days later same thing again, no power. They had the car for a week, drove 400 miles and said nothing wrong.
Approx 4 weeks later no power at all driving the car. Was limping along. Car had service light on ( which I took a photo of)
We returned it to them, again contacting his bank to say we had completely loss confidence in the car and wanted to return it. They said we could only do this if the garage show what the fault is. This was the end of July. So the garage have just called this afternoon to say they have taken it to Ford and nothing at all is wrong with it! Not even any lights on?
It’s like they are calling us liars.
So all this time my son has had to keep this faulty car insured and has had to insure his old car which luckily he hadn’t sold to get him to work and he’s 19 so you can imagine it’s not cheap. They couldn’t provide courtesy car. Just wondering do we stand anywhere? How do we know that the car hasn’t been fixed again and they are just saying there is nothing wrong with it.
Feel so upset for my son who saved hard for the deposit and has had nothing but trouble

You (he) could have exercised the Final Right to Reject after the first repair attempt failed to make the goods conform to contract. As soon as the vehicle fails again (which it almost certainly will by the sounds of it) then exercise that right then.

Alternatively ... raise a Section 75 claim with the finance company. Make sure that they are aware that it is a Section 75 claim.
  • Limp home mode means the sensors on the carb body that control the fuel and air intake are shot. Have the garage run a diagnostic to find out where the fault lies and get them to replace the parts that are broken. Saw this repair on Wheeler Dealers when they had a Jaguar XK8 in the workshop. Not the ECU.
