ALWAYS look around, NEVER just accept renewal price

This week I received an email from my House Building and Contents Insurer... Legal & General .
Nothing has changed in my house -- i.e. it hasn't moved to a flood plane , or quicksand area , Nothing has changed in my area--i.e. a Crime wave hasn't descended on my area , and we have not become an area where Fracking is happening ....
So , when these lovely people decided to offer me a renewal price that was 210% Higher than last year , I was a little more than surprised..... ( £234.12 last year , now offered at £490.29 !!)
When I called the Renewal Helpline , all I got was " well , there are a number of factors that may have changed., for instance , Crime may have risen in your area , or you might be in a flood area.." ( Idiotic thing to say , I thought )... so I reassured the operative , that "NO , nothing has changed... and even if armageddon has arrived in my area , even if a plague of locusts or a plethora of fracking or mines were being dug underneath my living room ; I just cannot see how a 210% increase in premium is justified"... well , I got the usual N.F.I. reply... So I did what every reasonable person does... I used comparison sites , and got the exact cover I have , for a slightly lower price than last year.... Do companies not understand the meaning of loyalty

I think you may have answered your own question:D0 -
i think they want a shiny new badge for home insurance"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Legal & general just done the same to me. Up 73% on last year with no claims and nothing changed. Blatant profiteering - they obviously don't try too hard to get renewals!0

It could be as simple as more people in your area have made claims in the past year. It doesn't have to be stuff like crime or floods, it could be for anything.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0

Since found a comparable policy for a pound less than last year's price. Aren't comparison sites a blessing! :j0
