Artemis Global Select vs Mid Wynd

I am looking to invest into a core global fund for my portfolio (20/25%). I already small holdings in SMT & ATT as satellite funds (10%) so rather than go for F&C or Bankers I thought Mid Wynd would be more complimentary in holdings/sectors. However, I am unsure on whether to go with Mid Wynd or go for the equivalent OEIC in Artemis Global Select. They produce similar results over 1, 3 and 5 year periods (as below), but I believe the OEIC is less volatile which may be a good thing when compared to the rest of my portfolio. Anybody hold either of these or have any views on them?

Mid Wynd International Investment Trust PLC Ord 5P 12.3% 49.9% 123.2% Artemis Global Select I Acc 7.4% 45.2% 102.4%

My wife used to hold Artemis Global Growth but switched to Global Select about three years ago and is very satisfied. She did however consider the Mid Wynd IT but in the end went with the OEIC version of the fund.

I have held the Mid Wynd global IT for a number of years but it now trades at a premium. Therefore, maybe the OEIC Artemis Global Select is worth considering unless the premium narrows?

Mid Wynd is a good global IT with less volatility. It has performed well among its peers in the global IT sector ie. Witan, F&C, Bankers, Alliance Trust etc so in my opinion not a bad choice.

Would you mind me asking what made your wife change funds from Artemis Global Growth to Global Select?

Despite its name Artemis Global Growth focuses on value stocks. At the end of July, the fund was trading on an average price-to-earnings ratio of 8.7x versus the benchmark at 15.1x, a 42% discount. I have about 10% of my portfolio in the fund as a value play which I hope, eventually, will come good.

PS Actually I hope it doesn't come good. Most of my holdings are in growth funds so I bought Artemis as a bit of insurance. I'll be happiest if my growth funds continue to outperform their indexes and Artemis tracks or only slightly lags its index.

Not at all, although as aroominyork mentioned Global Growth primarily focuses on value stocks, my wife decided in her opinion the performance (although thereabouts matching the index) wasn't going to improve in the future and thought the Global Select stock picking/holdings were better suited to her but only time will tell of course.

Interesting, however, in my own personal opinion, I would go for the Mid Wynd IT because the holdings do differ slightly and overall it seems the better option.

My Mid Wynd has done well since the mini dip at the end of last year, chasing at the heels of Fundsmith and beating Monks. Question is it a good time to buy after a nice upward run and 2% premium. If for the long term it may not matter.

I bought in in the last two weeks @ 582 and 587.

If the intention is a long term buy and hold I'm not sure the premium should matter too much.

Seems a well run trust and the investment team have (lots) of their own money in it.

Mid Wynds premium is now 3.2 so if you don't want to pay it just choose the OEIC Global Select instead and you don't pay the extra costs involved to buy it neither.
