Euro Car Park Again!!

Firstly I'd like to apologise to the news desk here for copying them into my recent emails to Euro Car Parks without any pre warning, context or permission. I am just very angry!

I have been incorrectly fined by Euro Car Parks for apparently overstaying a free 2 hour period in their car park in april this year. It was in fact 2 seperate journeys to the same car park on the same day but they have issued the notice as if it was one. There is no sign saying that you cannot return within so many hours either.

I've done the whole appeal business, submitted credit card receipts and statements showing purchases at different times of day but lost both appeals, theirs and POPLA's because, being a novice to all this, I did not realise the credit card statement would not be acceptable evidence due to the fact the times were written on by hand and not printed. Neither would they accept the witness statement from the friend that was with me that day who could confirm it was two separate visits.

Am i wrong to want to make a big fuss about this and refuse to pay? I'm 48 and never had so much as a warning, never mind a parking ticket. It's just the principle of it all now. I dont intend to pay, I intend to make a fuss. Seeing other threads on here that mention euro car parks sending out loads of dodgy fines so why do I care so much? Pride I'm afraid. I've even contacted a local councillor to see if he would get involved which he said he would. I've also contacted the local news paper as they have written before about others getting wrong fines at that car park.

If you think I'm just being a silly old woman and should pay up, please say. Likewise if you think Ithe best advice for me should just be to ignore the whole thing then advice would truly be appreciated.
Thanks
Jo

  • Get them to disclose the ANPR log. Get the witness statement. Use location tracking on your cell phone to show your movements that day. Google knows everything!

Looks like you have bee caught by the double dip anpr scam have you read the newbies thread yet it's all in there.

We don't suggest paying scammers on here either and you seem to have done the right thing kicking up a fuss, though it's a shame you never came here first as your appeals would have been better, a template first appeal from here, and a different appeal to POPLA on technical, procedural, and law points are the only ones accepted.

Just an ignore and waiting game now in case these idiots try anything in the future.

Ignore all debt collectors letters though they are useless muppets with no power to do anything.

And you were never "fined", just invoiced.

No, you have received an invoice to compensate them for the harm they allege you caused them when allegedly you overstayed in one of their car parks. Do not pay them a penny unless a Judge orders you to. Given the circumstances this is highly unlikely. It is called a "double dip" and is not uncommon, read some of these

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams so consider very strongly complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

  • Thanks for the responses. I have gone to local news paper to and they have done a big article on Euro Car Parks. Its highlighted, going by the comments on facebook that this particular car park obviously has a blind spot with regards to cameras not picking up people leaving and returning. And then being sent a charge for overnight parking.
I am going to continue making a fuss until they do something about this!

Have you found the Newbies thread and have you put an appeal in?

Looks like you have been through the appeals process so the only route left is publicising the scam and complaining. Until and unless this goes to court of course.

Have you appealed to the landowner?

IMO they would be daft to take this to court, I am sure we could blow them out of the water. The last thing they would want is a judge pouring scorn on their ANPR systems.

Please keep us up to date with the situation.
