Legal Cover

Hello MSE
I have a classic car that I have been insuring with the same insurance company probably some 10 - 15 years or so through RH Motors/ ERS.
Without my knowledge they starting adding chargeable "Legal Cover" to my yearly insurance but then they pulled this cover in 2015. I have asked why they applied it to my insurance policy since I never asked for Legal Cover to be applied to my policy and it was not relevant to me in the first place because my car has been laid up since I inherited it. According to the person I spoke to at RH/ ERS this cover was for road worthy vehicles.
I have raised a complaint and asked for all my paperwork but they have said it is my fault that I did not point out that they had included the Legal Cover in my policy even when it was not relevant and that they don't have access to my paperwork prior to 2015. A complete fob off!
I am annoyed that they are trying to put the blame on me when I never asked for the Legal Cover in the first place (apparently Legal Cover used to be free, then they started to add it onto policies as a chargeable extra before they then stopped it in 2015, and now I believe it is an opt in).
Can anyone impart any advice on how to get my money back?
Thank you!:money:

I think records are required to be kept for 6 years; at least for tax purposes. If you have exhausted their complaint system then the next step would be the financial ombudsman:

Not relevant why? Is the vehicle policy zero excess and does it already cover out of pocket expenses?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I think the OP meant it wasn't relevant as his car wasn't road worthy, and the cover was only for road worthy cars. OP, you should try complaining further, as it sounds like they basically mis-sold you the legal cover as it wasn't appropriate to you. They may argue that you were notified but I would assume that they know the insurance is for a car that is not being used?0
