car accident involving a herd of cows

The legislation applicable to these cases is the Animals Act 1971. Some info here.

I seem to recall strict liability imposed if a herd trespassed onto other land but that common law applied for animals trespassing on the road - i.e. you have to prove negligence.
Did anyone at the scene mention previous occurences at this farm? I'm wondering if the vet or the police may have made a comment. If so, the farmer would be aware of an issue and yet failed to take action to prevent it.

I also noticed the Animals Act 1971 was amended in 2007.0 -
update, the farmer has been found at fault and all costs incurred to me and the other drivers are being paid from his insurance company, i am still off work , all glass was removed from my eye, but i still have pains in my back which is a nightmare as i havnt been able to do much since the accident.0
