Renting Flat questions

Hello, I am 26 nearly 27 and starting university soon. I live with my parents but will be living in university. I don't understand about renting, what does it mean when you have to have a credit check and Refrences. Where would Refrences come from and I have no credit card, i only buy things on my debit card and my mum pays for everything else.

What sort of property will you be living in? If you are going to live in student halls for your first year then it is expected that you may not have a credit rating or references so these aren't usually needed.

Don't worry about finding housing for the future - get your place in halls of residence sorted for the start of term. Don't waste time - they can fill up fast.

At most universities you live in halls in the first year and then move into private shared rentals with your mates. The landlords won't expect you to have references, though they may ask your parents to act as guarantors. This rental will then be your reference when you leave uni and seek a new home when you start work.

Right ok, but what happens if parents are too poor to be guarantors?
