Utility Price Comparison.

Having recently been tempted to switch Gas & Electricity suppliers I find that, although comparison sites show substantial savings, the comparisons are based on current suppliers standard follow on tariffs.
This seems misleading and I wonder if there is a clause in comparison sites small print advising of this.
If customers were to compare prices on their current provider's best price the comparison would be fairer and more representative.
Have I missed something or have I learned a lesson ?.

You've learnt a lesson - blame the regulator. It's a good idea if you've never switched but confusing otherwise
NB Please edit your post to remove your personal details !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thousands of identical posts .
Blame the regulators as they assume that you stay on a standard tariff.
Dont blame the comparison sites ( though i do think they should have it in big big letters )
Pity no complaints to the regulator .0 -

But if you want a calculation based on your approach (what you paid last year rather than what youy will pay this year if you do nothing) try this

Remember the tariff on which your costs were based last year, presumably is no longer available this year0
