If you search for problems with carriers you will find complaints about every company - people don't usually write saying that their parcel was delivered OK. This makes it very difficult to choose and compare the reliability of individual companies.

I regularly send items to addresses in Europe, including Italy, using DPD or UPS either directly or via P2G. Posting via the post office in Italy seems very unreliable but I've had no problems with these carriers. I'm generally sending fragile items which are not covered with their insurance so I send them uninsured, packing very well and self-insuring.

For your personal items you may well find that you have to do the same as there are a lot of excluded items. I imagine that you will carry precious valuables in person so this might not to too much of a risk.

No nothing valuable, only books, clothes and odds and ends of purely sentimental value. I would like to send also my Apple desktop computer but I guess that's not advisable?
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

You will need to carefully read the insurance conditions. They may well have a delicate/ breakable general exclusion which mean it wouldn't be covered.

I've know idea how well a computer would stand up to the vibration and handling that would be involved in transit. It would certainly need to be very well packed insured or not.
