School places

This might be elsewhere but general advice for any parent buying/renting new property. Do not assume that your child will automatically get into the school you expect. If the class is full you will be allocated a place at the nearest school which has a spare place. That might be several miles away sometimes involving two or more bus changes. This particularly applies to infant classes where it is illegal to have more than 30 children in a class. Posted by someone who has been on independent panels listening to appeals for school places since 1993.

Since when has it been illegal to have more than 30 at primary?
Daughter had more than that in her class from years 3-5 and it was only two years ago. Year five topped out at 36.0 -
So someone who has been on independent appeals panels for years but doesn't know that a successful appeal can take the class number beyond 30. Extraordinary!0

In normal circumstances an infants class is limited to 30 pupils via the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 and the The School Admissions (Infant Class Sizes) (England) Regulations 2012, however the regulations also contain exemptions whereby the class size can exceed 30.
That said, I’m not really sure what the point of this post is other than to warn people that living close to a school won’t guarantee admission, which is pretty common knowledge.0 -

The OP said INFANT, which refers to Reception to Y2.
These classes should only have 30 kids unless the applicant for the last place is twins/triplets etc... and the school would have to take all of them.
A friend of mine moved into the area and cannot find a single school within a reasonable distance that can take a child in a Y2 class in September.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
This is not new info at all....it's an added stressor when trying to move area with school age kids0
