I am thinking about getting something like a BOSE Sound Link Mini 2 for a trip I am going on this week. Its priced at £140 and seems to be well reviewed.

Budget up to about £200, any recommendations ?

I cant offer a comparison to the Bose but I have a JBL Flip 4 and its absolutely brilliant.

The sound and bass is amazing and the battery goes many, many hours between charging.

I use it all the time in summer outside for BBQ's etc - sound is great even at low volumes - bluetooth to the phone for spotify plus if we are watching movies on the lap top, I connect it to that too for better sound. - its waterproof and although I have never really tested the waterproof feature, it was accidentally left outside overnight and on the following dewy morning it had survived intact.

We have actually ended up with 3 in our house as the kids have one each now at Uni and we can wireless link them together when they are at home.

i did consider the JBL, a Bose and also a UE Boom when looking for a bluetooth speaker - I discounted the Bose early on as although it might be fine for an indoor shelf (in my mind) it didnt seem rugged enough to have in the garden or to carry around in a backpack or take on holiday.

I think there was a deal on the JBL which is why I went with that over the UE Boom.

This is well within your budget - hope this helps.

The Soundlink mini 2 has been around for a while now and showing it's age a bit, you can get the newer Soundlink Revolve for the same price, maybe cheaper. Personally I prefer the UE Boom 3.

What do you mean by showing its age?

I was looking at the Revolve also - the 360 sound is appealing... its also much newer so may be the better choice indeed!

What kind of trip you are talking about?

I would go for cheap Tribit XSound Go or Anker soundcore instead. If you lose it/ break it. No hard feeling as it is cheap.

I've had a Kicker ik501 for about ten years that I have been very happy with.

I use it in our dining room for background music and also occasionally take it with me on UK holidays. It has an Auxiliary socket on the rear for non iPod use.

They are available used on eBay etc for about £30 to £40.

For example. (I have no connection to this seller or auction)

That would be value for money for a one off holiday.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

No need to spend more than £50 on a travel BT speaker.....Plenty of good ones around for that budget.
Bose wouldn't be my first choice of equipment in any arena....

  • Having had both a BOSE and JBL, I would highly recommend going for a JBL Charge 3 or 4, excellent sound and reliability, also splash proof.

Why not? Are they not regarded as the best about?

Not really, They are over rated and over priced,
You can get other brands that sound just as good for a lot less.
That is not to say that they are bad, just over rated.....
