Horses kept next to home

Options
Hello, we have woodland/field directly behind our back garden with a stable block built against out fence. The stable has been vacant for a long time. The owner now plans to sell the land but would like to keep the stables in case someone purchases who would like to keep livestock and/or horses.

My question is anyone aware of a law or regulation where animals can not be kept very close to a home? My worry is because this stable is so close to my home the noise and potential smell would be obviously not nice to live with. I've worked in a stable and no that horses are very loud especially at night.

I don't want to cause any issues but would rather bring it up beforehand than to wait until it becomes an issue.

Thank you :)

Going off the house near me that keeps 2 horses (could be ponies, i know noting about equines) on what is about half an acre im going to assume there will be little you can do about it.

To offer further perspective, there is medical centre a few doors down and thousands of people living within a 1 mile radius. I can only assume someone wouldve complained and going off the fact that theyre still there, unsuccessfully.

Were the stables there when you bought the house?

I'm struggling to think what sort of stables has people working in the middle of the night, let alone any horses that are 'very loud'. What were they doing so loudly? I am intrigued!!!

It's my dream to live next to a field of horses.

The stables have always existed. Somebody might have horses, they probably won't though.

I've seen regular 3 bed semi detached houses, on regular roads, in regular towns, with a horse in the front garden/garage.... few, admittedly, but you can't ever guarantee to be safe from what any neighbour might do at any time.
  • If the land is currently designated as agricultural then keeping horses will be in accordance with planning law.

So will sheep, pigs, chickens, llamas, ostriches and bison.

I think I'd be grateful if it's horses.

There are two fields of horses just along the lane from our rural cottage :D Sometimes at night - and during the day - they whinny relatively loudly. Doesn't bother us in the slightest......

If you buy the land yourself, you get to control what goes on upon it.

Personally, parfum de cheval is one of my pleasures in life...especially compared to the odours of any intensively reared livestock.

I'd swap my downstairs neighbours with anyone's horses.
