Windscreen claim fail

Hi, not sure if anyone can help me with this one. We had our badly chipped windscreen replaced by Autoglass at a cost of £430. You know what’s coming don’t you? We didn’t check the insurance company’s “preferred repairer” list beforehand, as previously Autoglass has always been the one to use. Now our insurance company (Lloyds) are refusing to pay any more than £150 - less their £75 excess of course.
Do I have any grounds for complaint, or do I just have to suck this one up and think it through next time?
Thanks in advance for any help.

£430 is alot for a windscreen I must say.
Afraid you should have checked the T+Cs re windscreen repair, and if they say to contact them beforehand, should have been done.
Chalk it down as an expensive lesson"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Normal clause in every policy I have had. I am afraid you are going to have to suck this one up and read your insurance docs in future.0

Not really, the Capri's windscreen was just replaced, close to a grand
OP, afraid its user error, you should have checked your documents before hand0 -
Thanks guys, at least this saves me wasting more time and embarrassing myself. Will put this one down as a lesson learned!0

The alternative for you is to not claim under your windscreen section but under your accidental damage section where there will be no such monetary limitation.
You will have an adjustment to your ncb if not protected and your normal a.d policy excess will apply0 -
I'm sure in the past when I have had windscreens replaced they have asked who I'm insured with and confirmed that I will have excess to pay only. Lloyd's is a big insurer and one would assume they would use a big company like autoglass. I would make a formal complaint you have nothing to lose.0
