Id guess its a master/slave problem. Are you using IDE or SATA?

  • Swap the drives around on the cable. If HDD 1 is connected to connector A and HDD 2 is connected to connector B, swap them around.

have seen similar/same more than one. so if everything is connected properly.

you could try them on separate ide ports.

Cable select did help once, but some drives from manufacturer x just don't work with manufacturer y. yes I know there is an ide standard. Those Conner drives - never trusted them after that occasion.

two x drives worked together, and so would 2 y drives.

you have tried making them both masters and put them on different ide channels/ports/connectors?

you have checked/enabled the bios and the correct sizes show in the bios?

Might be worh looking for a mb bios upgrade - worth a shot

  • the master is usually just "drive 0" and the slave "drive 1 check in your bios when you start up, usualy press delete, and look at your boot order, and on your ide cable the master normally goes on the last socket, although your computer will not explode if it's not.
