Bus Lane Fine - Pay or Appeal?

Hi,
Just wanted some advice as to whether I should bother appealing a Bus Lane Fine or not. I've received a £60 fine for driving in a bus lane, with the caveat that it's reduced by 50% if I pay within 14 days.
Basically, I took a wrong turn in Manchester City Centre (dead end) and as I came out of a side street to rectify the error I unintentionally drove through a bus lane that was probably 50 yards long maximum in order to take the next left to get me back to where I was heading. It was after 6pm on a Friday night so the roads were quiet and I blatantly wasn't trying to avoid any traffic congestion as you can clearly see my vehicle is the only one on the CCTV still that accompanied my letter. I genuinely just didn't see any warning signage (weather/visibility was also poor - is this an excuse?) and I was only aware of the error when I got the paperwork through the door. The irony is that I was actually heading to a Homeless Charity to do a drop off so so much for trying to do a good deed!:D
Is it worth me bothering to appeal as I've been told local councils are pretty unforgiving when it comes to this sort of thing and are extremely unlikely to uphold my appeal as these fines are just a cash cow to line the council coffers?
Any advice gratefully accepted!
Cheers

I won my appeal a year or so again because of 1 word they used on the fine letter. Post up a picture of your fine with all personal information removed.0
