Halifax Bank Charges

Options
Hi, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place.

My debts spiralled out of control in 2016/2017 and bank charges from Halifax for going over my overdraft limit were a massive contributor to me getting further and further into trouble. I'm in a DMP now with Stepchange and have been for a couple of years. Halifax are my biggest debt. As I have not had an active account with them for 2 years is it still possible to reclaim unfair bank charges? It could help to reduce my DMP substantially.

Thank you

Not possible in the normal sense but you can try writing them a nice polite letter outlining your circumstances at the time and ask them.
They probably won't but you won't know till you ask.
    Do not mention unfair,just explain.

What unfair bank charges? The banks won their case years ago.

Labman, this forum isn't just used by financial experts, but Joey's off the street like me as well. I've done a little bit of research but thought I'd approach a helpful forum for some advice. If you have anything constructive to add I'm all ears!

If you’d done ANY research then you’d already know what Labman has said, banks won a court case in 2009 meaning charges cannot be assessed for their level or fairness.

Ask nicely, hoping for some goodwill (if anything possibly a couple of fees refunded... expect nothing and you won’t be disappointed) and for the love of god do not use the words ‘unfair’ or ‘excessive’ as you will be met with an auto reject letter .

Labman's reply to you was constructive. Just maybe not what you wanted to hear.
