Why Metro Bank is top?

I do not understand why Metro Bank is top in the list of custermer service with First Direct.

Metro bank does not provide any current account switch offer unlike First Direct.

In regards to branch services (which I’m aware First Direct are a branchless bank) I found Metro’s branch process superb when it came to opening a joint account. Walked in on a Sunday without an appointment to open an account. Was seen straight away. Offered a drink. Didn’t take long to set up, printed our debit cards straight away. And at the end we were introduced to the branch manager who asked if we found everything ok with the account opening. Thought all these were very nice touches. Staff all seemed very friendly. So I am not surprised they have scored so highly on the service front.

Assuming you're referring to the latest official biannual survey, then you can read for yourself the questions that were asked, which don't include "does your bank have a switching offer"....

Our local branch always appears empty. Staff waiting for customers. ;)

Unfortunately Metro Banks financial performance as a business doesn't mirror their PR image. Branches are somewhat out of date. Fintech is the new trend.
  • Metro Bank does not offer high interest rate on saving account too.
I understand they open 7 days a week, fast, But I can wait for account opening.

Perhaps you're confusing two totally different types of analysis of competing banks?

If you want to compare based on clear and verifiable facts (such as switching offers, interest rates, opening hours, etc) then you can do so via the banks' websites and also via sites such as this one that offer such comparisons in neatly condensed form.

If you want to find out about qualitative perspectives, then surveys (such as the official Ipsos Mori one), polls (such as the MSE one) and review sites (such as Trustpilot) offer a chance for customers to give inherently subjective opinions about what their experience is like, which will inevitably differ massively from one person to another.

Personally I always prefer to stick to the facts but do recognise that some are heavily swayed by the subjective stuff - each to their own!

If you're looking for a decent bank account to use for your bills and daily spending why does a switch offer matter? You'll soon spend that and then ponder what you're left with. Switching offers cause a pavlovian reaction in some people and they have to grab the offer. I tend to resist, as I do in supermarkets when there is a BOGOF or similar. I will buy what I want to buy and not allow the big businesses to push me in a certain direction.

Thats not customer service. Service is how you are treated as an individual.

My partner opened an ISA with them a couple of years back. Service in branch was first class. Couldn't fault it. Unfortunately their subsequent interest offering was poor. So she moved the money. That's simply business.
  • What we want at the end of the days is money (high interest and switch offer like £100 from first direct, £135 from halifax)
