Weekly, monthly and other multiple end date comps

Options
Are these not supposed to be posted with the current end date and then reposted for each new entry period?
I may be remembering wrong but I thought that was the idea once the weekly, monthly threads were discarded.
Asking because I keep finding comps posted as ending on the last end date instead of the next end date. I’m not the only end date compel who therefore misses out on all but the very last chance to enter these competitions.
Dailies at least mostly still get linked to in the daly thread, but if I remember right there were a lot of people who found adding things to the weekly and other threads or checking them for new comps too much effort which is why those threads were scrapped in preference of every comp other than daily being reposted for every new entry period.
Have I missed something in my years of not being here between then and now?

Comping by end-date is not recommended and apart from potentially missing some of these, one of the many other reasons not to do it is it takes longer.
That said Weekly/Monthly competitions should be posted as new competitions for each week/month they are running (although that does not apply to the "enter once" for all draws type).

Yep, but no one takes note! People on these forums seem to do what they like. It's been brought up a few times (that I've seen) and every time it's been agreed to do as you said, but hardly happens...... same as the multiple mag dailies :o
    Thanks to all posters :A

With regards to the mag dailies it became too much for me to continue with and no one offered to take it on, I get it as I used to end date myself but it was becoming more of a chore than a hobby and all I had time to do was update mag dailies and not actually enter any comps myself

I know this wasn't a dig, I just wanted to explain my reasons

I usually do a new post for each week of a longer comp when I’ve posted them in the past as I know it works best that way, but for a recent one I haven’t as it runs for ages and I know I’m going to be busy/away for a good chunk of it, so won’t always be able to keep reposting each week.

I would be happy to change it if other members don’t mind taking over with reposting it each week, but I left it like that because when I’ve posted a comp weekly before and then not been able to always do it each week, sometimes no-one else has posted the next week (or even for a few weeks until I’ve been back posting it myself), so then everyone misses out on those missing weeks (unless you’ve seen it in an early week and bookmarked it rather than relying on a repost) and not just end daters, meaning I was just genuinely not really sure what to do for the best for everyone :)

I’m sorry if this was one of the comps any end-daters have missed out on :(

Recommended or not it’s still how some of us like to comp

I think part of the problem with them being missed if/when you can’t post them is that some people are insistent that they “own” the right to post comps from certain sites and get peed off when someone else posts. Thus people are scared to post in case they’re treading on toes so it’s left to the person who found it. Who doesn’t always come back to repost the new week/month which means everyone misses out.

Do we need to go back to having a weekly thread? So all weekly get posted with the last end date and linked to in that thread the way dailies and advents do?

If you want to then by all means, I have no opinion as I don't use those lists, I just use the forum's "subscribe to topic" for those I do.

Without meaning to tell you how to suck eggs (I'm aware that everyone comps differently), as an end-date comper that has also missed out on a few of these weekly wotsits, I've just modified how I enter a little.

I end date for say, today's tomorrow's and the day after. Then after that I comp by first posted to catch up the board. The next day I repeat so I'm always catching the short-dated ones, but also picking out the longer-term weekly efforts. Every so often I'll do a search for "weekly" and "monthly" just to double check.

Not saying that's how everyone should do it, but it works for me. Sorry if it's not "recommended" but whatever. I get enough wins from it so I don't see no reason to change :)

I don't end date, but I do think a weekly thread is needed as some comps get missed from being posted altogether now as a lot of regular posters aren't here so much/at all anymore (me included at the moment).

A weekly thread could be set up with each day having its own post and then a link to the correct day put in the main board each day and then people couldn't complain that they don't use the regular board so don't know about the weeklys? Does that make sense, would it work?

Yeah, I don't mind if anyone else continues the weekly posts I've started :D

Have actually just realised my 2 posts relating to separate entry periods for the same comp had been merged anyway, even after the first part had correctly expired :(

I made a post for Week 1 with the end date in the title as NOON 11/08 and then on the afternoon of 11/08 I clicked expired and started a new post for Week 2 onwards. I later checked a day or two later and the first post (with 11/08 in the title) had been correctly moved to Game Over as expected.

However, I just checked it now and found that the correctly expired post for Week 1 has actually at some point been moved back to the Main Board and the end date in the title has been edited to 31/01 (which is the closing date for the late entry draw) so not even the end of the weekly draws (03/11 which I had used) therefore making it worse for end-daters. In addition, the Week 2 onwards post has then been merged in with Week 1, when it should have been left as its own post as it relates to a new entry period. I'm not sure how all this happened....perhaps someone mistakenly requested a dupe merge even though my posts were for separate entry periods and state you have to make a new entry for each period.

I've deleted the incorrectly merged part and requested that the Week 1 post be moved back to Game Over again. I've also made another new post for Week 4 instead and so hopefully that won't get merged in with Week 1 or it'll create the same problem again for end daters.
