Reclaim for accounts in the 90s

Options
My parents wanted to get one of the claims companies to reclaim any PPI they had, but I told them it they would be better off doing it themselves, so instead they are now getting me to do it...and typically I have left it to last minute, but hopefully I am not too late.

An issue I am having is that a lot of the loans they have taken out were before I was born, so I am finding it difficult to find account information. What would be the best option for accounts opened in 1980-90?

Just to be clear, as long as I complete a check, I can still complete the claim after the deadline? Would I be at any disadvantage/lose any rights if I put in the claim after the deadline?

My mum had already got a couple companies to do a search for her and they returned some relevant accounts with Barclays bank. Do these searches already carried out have a different deadline or affect the deadline in any way?

When I did a search with Barclays directly they did not return any of the accounts the claims company found however they did return a different account themselves.
Anyone know why I am getting different accounts from claims company vs direct for the same bank?

As these accounts are from some time ago my parents have forgotten some of the details, any way to get back old account statements etc?

When did they whole selling of PPI start? Would it be worth doing a check for my grandparents for accounts from the 1960-80?

The Plevin case only applies to accounts opened after 2008 right, it wont help inn any way for accounts from the 90s?

Any help is appreciated.

PPI wasn't widely sold until the mid nineties, and no one but your parents know who they had credit with. Checking your credit score will show who you currently have it with but no one else has access to their memories.
You need to make a complaint by the end of business on the 29th.

You need to know who they had credit with and comp!ain directly to the company on their website.

Also can I make a claim for PPI paid for by a business? My mum was paying what’s labelled as “insurance” along with her lease rental for a machine she used at work. I have the paperwork, it was with Investec Bank, whom I’ve never heard of. How do I go about making a claim against them?

The best option would probably to give up now I'm afraid.

PPI was rare thirty years ago and certainly wasn't available 40 years ago. In addition, any records of finance from so long ago will have long been destroyed in line with Data Protection legislation .

If you don't complain before Friday you will be too late for anything.

Why would they? If you don't complain before Friday you will be too late for anything.

No idea, but if you've signed a contract with the Claims Company, you've already signed away the right to complain alone.

    In just three days?
The only realistic way of obtaining documentation that old is in your parents' own archive.

PPI was rare thirty years ago and certainly wasn't available 40, 50 or 60 years ago. In addition, any records of finance from so long ago will have long been destroyed in line with Data Protection legislation .

    Wrong.
Plevin applies to finance still in place in 2008, so when the account was opened is irrelevant.

It's important to realise that not every insurance policy was PPI and not even all PPI was mis-sold.

Why would this insurance be somehow refundable?

In what way was it mis-sold?

On those grounds, make a PPI claim for every time you went on holiday and bought travel insurance. :rotfl:
