We have just moved to a larger house and need increased cover. When looking at our documents we currently have a joint mortgage decreasing term assurance with critical illness but we also have a joint level term assurance. Do we need to have both?

Do you need to? no. You don't need anything.
Do you have a financial need for it? possibly. Most families do but you havent told us anything about you. So, its impossible to say.
If you have a family or spouse/partner then its quite normal, indeed the most common way of doing your life assurance. a DTA for the mortgage and an LTA for your family protection.0
