Current account switch

So, am looking to get a couple of current account rewards going to make up for my 'loss' of both the recent tsb rate drop to 3% and my nationwide flex 5% initial rate ending. I worked it out as a loss of about £12 per month. Damn. ;-)

The 2.5k at nationwide that I had I chucked in a 1yr fixed with atom for now that's a measly 2% but literally the only other alternative was either a 3% regular save drip feed with either Saffron or Virgin, but Atom seemed the better option for that, albeit somewhat paltry itself.

I just opened a co op account which pays up to 5.50 a month. Not sure I'll make 30 debit transactions a month for the max gain unless I cheat with (multiple) PayPal payments from the card but the account seems worth it for even a free £48.

I see Barclays us offering double blue rewards til end of November. If I open a Halifax reward account this month, could I switch it to Barclays in November for the offer ? Or is that not allowed? Or maybe id even be refused it having opened a co op and Halifax accounts in a short time before? I was going to try it on with Danske for their reward account but general opinion is theyve shut up shop of non-NI residents opening one.

I figure if I can at least get the Barclays offer then I'll have covered my losses (frugal mind eh!) Just I'm not sure of the legitimacy of opening the Halifax one only to switch away a month or two later ! I d switch my nationwide one if I could but I need to use that to get the M+S reg save account end of the year when my nationwide one ends (and for good it seems).

Oh and I assume I can't use the Monzo account I have? I only registered with them to be nosey and next day they sent me a bright orange card?! Lol.

I need a new wallet for all these cards

yes you can switch your new account to barclays as soon as it is open if you want just make sure there's a little bit of money in it and that you have your debit card as you will need this

i recommend you open the barclays account online and once open use the barclays app to switch the halifax account - this will avoid a barclays branch visit

don't worry about having too many bank accounts a lot of people on a here have far more that you!

Cool, I'll open Halifax this week then, leave a bit of cash, setup the DDs needed then switch either late October/ early November. Then switch my nationwide for m+s to get the saver bonus. Would have preferred to switch away this Monzo one if I could than lose the (paltry but better than 0) Halifax but since it's the least useful one id have after Monzo, it'll have to go ! Cheers :)

    Yeah cheers :)

I might see if it works to switch the Monzo one ... Apparently they are signed up to switch guarantee ... Not sure if Barclays would accept that tho unless everyone signed up to switch guarantee is committed to allowing all 'banks' signed up to it (if you can call Monzo a bank that is?!).

Yes you can switch Monzo to Barclays if that is what you are asking!
