Chimney liner stuck - advice please

Hi,
I had a back boiler and old gas fire removed last year but unfortuately the chimney liner was left in. A gas chappy (idiot) told me to just "pull it out" and now its stuck halfway down the chimney. A roofer says I shouldnt have pulled it and he will have to remove bricks from chimney to get it out at a cost of £220 ish. Can it stay in if I have a new coal effect gas fire? (They reckon they get too hot. Is this true?)
Also, I've had a quote for fitting fire of £135 + vat. Is that reasonable? Also what type of class of chimney is it (class 1, 2, etc?)
(Bolier has first service today. £56 for 8 mins:eek: ). I keep getting ripped off.
Any advice would be much appreciated as I dont trust the clowns around here.
Thanks.

Thanks, Will get another quote tomorrow. Another Corgi fitter says liner will possibly need to stay in. In which case I give up.0
