Generally need to sow by July. Might be worth a try though if you are in the South. Thought about winter spinach as an alternative?

I've been told you can grow chard and lettuce indoors throughout the year. I planted both in my kitchen window sill pots at the beginning of August and some of them are ready for eating. I'm going to keep planting seeds until they stop. I guess a lot of it depends on how dark the winter is. I have the right windows so pick up the sun all day which may help.0
