O/S Daily Monday 26 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sunny, clear and already warm start to the day here.
DH and myself are enjoying first cuppas of the day, back door is open - trying to let some cool air in before it gets too hot.
Yesterday we went out with my parents for lunch, mum has been getting steadily worse and dad hadn't had chance to book a table for lunch, so luckily DH and I went early and went to a local hotel near where they were staying and managed to get a table booked for lunch, it was superb and not outrageously priced - mum and dad were very impressed with it. Car's a nice ride. We managed to take mum and dad back to the caravan and then leave to come home, it was early afternoon so traffic was ok, and we didn't queue - so we got back reasonable time, chilled for the rest of the day.
Today we're having another chill day, I'll be organising pack ups etc ready for tomorrow, when we're all back to work.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Cloudy this morning but still very warm. Yesterday got very hot again, such a treat.
Nearly finished the bedroom, just need to call after work today to finish off. I think DD had done too much on Saturday so was a bit washed out. I got the grass cut when I came home - discovered the mower has 3 height settings so the grass no longer has to be shaved! No work on the deck but he did text to say he would crack on today. I do hope so, it's an assault course getting to the washing line!
Hope your DD makes a swift recovery JackieO.
No bank holiday here but enjoy yours if you have one. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another scorcher forecast so not a lot of jobs planned. More bedding waiting to be pegged out and a bit of ironing to do and I think that may well be the extent of my exertions for today! But I think I said similar yesterday and I ended up making a start cleaning the kitchen cupboards out!
I hope the anniversary celebrants had a good day yesterday. JACKIE sorry to hear about Tessa, it's a bit unfair for an infection to clobber her on holiday. Hopefully the anti b's will kick in today.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them and a wave to our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.
Sorry to hear your Mum is getting worse NMLC, does your Dad have help at home from outside agencies?
It's a cool grey slightly misty start here, but it will clear. Yesterday was lovely - we didn't go out but sat outside. Definitely going out today though.
Didn't really do much yesterday, but the day just seemed to slip away. I'll visit an elderly friend this morning, she lives just a few minutes walk away, and I haven't seen her for 3 weeks, with us being away.
The garden could do with a little tidy, we might do it this evening after tea. it's only a little garden, but still needs attention.
DD and family are enjoying their time in the caravan in this lovely weather, they've had friends staying over the weekend, and DS has been camping for 2 nights with Dgs, they're now home though. DS will be back at work tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a good day,
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Yesterday was blazing hot, beaming sun and blue skies. Foolishly I trailed into town on the bus, it was far too hot to be inside a metal box full of other people. Anyway, managed to buy DM a lovely raspberry pink Per Una jumpier and a slate blue very fine merino one for myself. The trousers I bought her are less successful so they'll be going back today.
Tonight there is a 'close' meeting, this is where all the owners in the building meet to discuss things. One of the neighbours is very pro-active in keeping everything in order along with liaising with the factor about repairs.
There's enough food in the fridge still although I'll have to buy another cake as DM dropped the last piece and now wants more!
Happy Monday to all whether enjoying a bank holiday or back at the grind.0 -
Jackie, I hope Tessa feels better today.
We had a very enjoyable day listening to the cricket - such an exciting game. Steve seems a bit better today and says he can do the trip to Yorkshire but we will see. We've got a few appointments up there this week and he needs to pick up his new glasses and lenses.
I was reading yesterday about a Dr who has found out how to delay the menopause, am I the only one who feels much happier and healthier since the menopause? Maybe I'm a freak.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
What a beautiful sunny morning we have here, astounding since it is a Bank Holiday. Steve and I have been up for hours already so he is now chained to the kitchen making us a healthy grill-up for breakfast.
Nothing much planned for today, I will probably just be listening to some music and reading on my Kindle. Had a nice long chat with Lilly at 4am when she came home. She was in a really good mood and it was lovely to spend time with her. It gives me hope that we will get through this rubbish teenager phase and she will revert back to the lovely girl she used to be.
Jackieo, I hope Tessa feels a lot better soon and can carry on enjoying her holiday xx
snoozer, I agree with you about the menopause even whilst I am going through the throes of it I would still rather put up with the symptoms than cope with the horrendous periods I used to have xx
Gers, happy cake buyingthe jumpers both sound lovely xx
Yay, my breakfast is ready so I will love you and leave you. Hope you enjoy your day whether you have a Bank Holiday or not, take care xx0 -
Sun blazing away. Washing in the machine, will be hung out OH is putting preservative on the garden table and finishing off the chairs.
It was too hot again yesterday. So will not be doing much again today. Salad for supper me thinks.
Feeling a bit pelly Wally this morning, will be glad when it cools down a bit.0 -
Morning all
Beautiful bright sunny day here again we have been so lucky with the weather this weekend, we had a party at my sisters Saturday and I was out in a vest top and shorts till the early hours.
Today I have stripped the beds and got them on a hot wash will hang them out and then put them straight back on the bed once dry I love the smell of fresh line dried bedding.
Got the over night oats to do this morning and will have a quick sweep through and a tidy, we will then take the dog for a lovely beach walk she is getting used to the sea and as a pup would only tiptoe in the water, yesterday she fully swam which is lovely to see and must be much cooler for her, it is a dog friendly beach and she loves it there running with the other dogs she comes home exhausted !
We will do a bbq tonight and enjoy the weather, I have not had a good weekend diet wise so back on it today !
Jackie I hope Tessa starts to feel better soon xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Happy BHoliday all (if you have one
) just Happy Day if not
Its overcast here today and a bit cooler thank goodness.
I think DGS is coming shortly for a bit.DH and I are going into town later to the Food Festival again, there are a couple of people who are performing on one of the music stages. We went on Saturday but it was very packed and horrendously hot so hopefully a bit better. I always buy my handmade soap from one of the sellers but he wasnt there & tracked him down to a Farmers market yesterday which was lovely in a little town a bit further North.Nicely stocked up now, and he says he'll drop some of the one I like but was out of stock which is very kind,he is fairly local and says he's always around.
We bbq'd last night.I popped my head round the new back path before it was lit to tell next door as she had washing out and while I was making a fuss of their little dog and he was barking a young female voice from next door but one shouted ' shut that f£$%ing dog up ' - charming! I could tell it upset E as they moved here to get away from noisy neighbours. There was some kind of party going on and lots of shouting & squealing and corks popping. It wasn't the young woman who rents the house who shouted the abuse but she's just split with her boyfriend and is obviously whooping it up.Then they went out but came back after and started again at midnight, I had to shut the bathroom window as the noise even carried to our bedroom. Hopefully it's a one off !
Sorry your DM is worse Nmlc.
Hope Tessa is better soon JackieO.
Anyway hope it's a good day for us all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning all
I had a rubbish nights sleep again, that's 3 in a row.
Today it's overcast here but I think the sun will burn through later.
My task for today is to cut the front hedges, well Mr Fix It will cut and I'll be on cleaning up :rotfl:How come it grows spikey bits and not all over at the same time/rate IYSWIM ? It looks like a tatty hedgehog and not a sleek hedge, plus, there are some brambles coming over from next door which are going towards the pavement via our hedge . I wouldn't want anyone to catch themselves on the brambles, but I can only cut them back as far as I can reach. It seems the neighbours are not going to bother with their garden, not that they ever did much anyway as it's a rental, but now they are moving nothing is being done.
Hey ho I just hope the next people are nice, quiet and gardeners...... that's not a lot to ask, is it ?
Hugs going to anyone who is in need for any reason.
Take care and enjoy the sun and bank holiday.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
