Signed Up 2 Companies To Search For PPI

Options
On 7th July I followed a link on Facebook and got a company to look for Ppi , I was sent documents and signed my signature online ( my wife did the same to look for a old mortgage she had before meeting me ). I got a text back saying they will keep me updated weekly by text. By August 1st I didn't get a text ( neither did my wife ) so I thought it was a hoax so I contacted another company who have kept me up dated.

Yesterday both me and my wife got a text from the first company saying things are still ongoing. This left me in a panic so I sent them a email telling them I have signed up with another company because I didn't get weekly updates like I was told. I understand these companies are busy but to go nearly 2 months without getting in touch is not very good. Will I have to pay the first company?.

Yes of course you will. You signed their contract saying you would.

Why use a company when you could've written a letter and sent it off yourself just for the price of a stamp.

Because I didn't know you could do it yourself. I was told I would be texted every week but didn't so not my fault , I signed the contract thinking I would get updated every week not once in 2 months.

Then you should have phoned or emailed them. I doubt the contact you signed says pay unless we fail to txt you.

Like I said I thought it was a hoax and if I waited for a email reply which I might not get a reply to anyway I would be to late to go to another company. How much do you think this will cost me?

Approx 28% of each claim to each company so over 1/2. If you don't pay them they will take you to court, these companies are ruthless. Normally any payout will go direct to you, they then contact you approx one week later for their share. If only one company contacts you I would still keep the other 1/2 safely tucked away, they could ask for it anytime in six years.

God's sake, don't need this. Should I contact the first company again to not cancel just go a head has planned?.

Depends what the contract says for the 2nd one you signed up for.

    Can you cancel them

  • Hi,

remember PPI deadline is 29th Aug, so you must have claim in by then.

If you cancel them you might need to start again.

Second one says I can cancel but for a small fee, unfortunately can't find the first company documents I was sent via the phone. If the cancellation fee is like the second company it won't be so bad. Will see what the first company says when they get in touch.

Keep in mind any ability to cancel may be dependant on how far down the process they are... doubt very much they would let you ‘cancel’ days before any potential award was due
