HSBC Mortgage PPI in 2000

Family member has had a reply from HSBC that they had Mortgage ppi in 2000 (underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance). He recalls going through the application, doing all the paperwork in a meeting at branch but the complaint form asks for specifics on why it was misold etc. He has no recollection of it being mentioned at the time so does anyone know how HSBC typically sold ppi around this time, e.g, did they always mention it or sometimes omit to, not adequately explain it, say it was compulsory etc? Or perhaps they sold it properly. Long time ago in this case hence hard for him to recall! Thks.

MPPi is the least missold type of PPI. Indeed, you can still buy MPPI today. Most MPPI complaints do not succeed. So, its best to first remember that. Especially when there doesn't actually seem to be much in the way of complaint to begin with.
A missale complaint is an allegation of wrongdoing. So, what does this family member think the bank have done wrong?0 -
He needs to tell them why he thinks it was missold, using his own reasons.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

He does not recall being told or agreeing to it being added. Obviously may be a failure of recollection on his part.0

The comprehensive mortgage documentation he signed will certainly trump any failure to remember fully nineteen years later. He does not recall being told or agreeing to it being added.
If you complain on this basis alone, your complaint will certainly fail.
As already noted, PPI for a mortgage is still retailed today and does not suffer from the same faults at point of sale that PPI on loans and credit cards very often did.0 -
The state of his memory is not grounds for complaint. Its pretty much one of the weakest complaint reasons going. Especially with standalone cover with its own monthly direct debit. After all, it appeared on his bank statement each month. He does not recall being told or agreeing to it being added.0
