I have been looking though the many posts but cant find a definitive answer. I took out a mortgage when purchasing my first house in about 2002. I arranged my mortgage through bradford and bingley (the estate agents) and they said I needed to take out insurance as a condition of the mortgage. The mortgage was with Newcastle building society. The insurance was with scottish provident and was a falling amount to cover the mortgage as it was paid off.
So in this instance who would my claim be with?
Then in around 2014 I paid off my mortgage early and with some effort I contacted Scottish provident (who doin't send out paperwork annually or at any other time unless requested) to cancel my policy as I had paid off the mortgage early - this was a nightmare as they had the wrong postcode - and they talked me out of cancelling it once I had got through saying it was not necessarily the best thing to do - they said they would send out some paperwork to detail the policy. This did turn up a week or so later but in the meantime I had gone away for work and I continued paying.
I had also complained to ombudsman at this time after the difficulty I had contacting Scottish Provident and was told it sounded like PPI,
So do I have 2 claims in this instance or just one?
Thanks for any help!
Tony

That sounds like Decreasing Term Assurance ie Life Cover not PPIThen in around 2014 I paid off my mortgage early and with some effort I contacted Scottish provident (who doin't send out paperwork annually or at any other time unless requested)
There is no requirement to send out annual paperwork on life insurance policies.0 -
The insurance was a sensible thing to take out, just because you fortunately did not die does not mean your are entitled to the premiums back.0

You only make a claim if you are dead. You are clearly not dead. So, perhaps you mean complaint.
If it was a condition of borrowing then you cannot be missold. There were a few lenders left at the time that still had life assurance as a requirement of the mortgage. However, it was very common, especially for estate agent mortgage brokers, to require the purchase of insurance for them to give you free mortgage advice.
However, even if you were lied to, it is pre-regulation and there is nobody for you to complain to (B&B estate agents were not the same as B&B the building society)Then in around 2014 I paid off my mortgage early and with some effort I contacted Scottish provident (who doin't send out paperwork annually or at any other time unless requested) to cancel my policy as I had paid off the mortgage early - this was a nightmare as they had the wrong postcode - and they talked me out of cancelling it once I had got through saying it was not necessarily the best thing to do - they said they would send out some paperwork to detail the policy. What about that makes it sound like it was PPI?
Scottish Provident are a life assurance company. Their primary product was life assurance but it could bolt on critical illness cover and income protection. So, not sure where this thought about it being PPI is.
However, if you want to complain about it, then you complain to the person that sold it to you. As long as it was bought after January 2005 that is. If before then, that makes it pre-regulation and not something you can complain about.0
