    I am in a similar position. I have opted not to register with the job centre because even if you don't get any money you still have to follow the rules and apply for lots of jobs, provide evidence of that etc etc. As I don't want to go through all that I will live off savings and pay my own NI this year.

    But I only have one year before state retirement pension kicks in and your situation is probably different. So knowing the facts, work out what's best for you.

    If you are employed/self employed and haven't had the need for the JC in years, the changes could quite easily have passed you by. It has me.
