Scottish power rip off!!!!

Hi Guys,

first post so bare with me.

So, a month or so ago I was going through my bank statements and noticed a high charge from Scottish power of well over £200 per month electricity charge! I live in a 1 bedroom flat and I am only there 2 weeks of every month. I tried speaking with someone but they basically fobbed me off saying it would all balance itself out. it hasn't, it's basically reduced itself down to over £170 per month! I am basically using more electric than a 3-4 bedroomed house!!

Is there a way of adding photos to here and I can show you my usage over the past couple of years.

It is incredible!

Any advice on this situation would be great. Or anyone with similar issues that got resolved?

I have sent off my complaint to them using resolver, waiting still for a reply before going ahead with a complaint to the ombudsmen.

Thanks in advance

David

You have done the right thing by raising a complaint with the supplier. :)
It could take some time as you decided to do that through a third party :(

Prejuding the situation somewhat aren't you? Alreaady talking of going to the ombudsman
Still., if that is your intent come what may, don't let anyone here stand in your way :)

Most people use an external picture sharing web page and add a link.

Have you asked them to check your electricity meter? Are you sharing a supply with your neighbours (seen it happen, try turning everything off and looking to see if the numbers on the meter go up), any storage heaters (the older ones eat electricity)?

Make sure of your facts before you do anything.

How long have you been with SP and on this tariff?

Most of these surprise bills are due to meter readings - usually the OP has not read his meter for months if ever.

Read your meter NOW and compare the reading whats on your bill ?

While looking at your meter compare the serial number with that on the bill.

Are you 100% sure the meter is yours ? If its in a communal cupboard beware !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Switch your supply off at the meter and see if the supply goes off in your flat.

You need to provide hard facts, not mere emotion. You need to establish your annual consumption in kWh from actual meter readings (not estimates), and then to understand how Fixed Direct Debits work.

Do you have gas? If not, heating with electricity will always be expensive.

To help complete the picture -

Has SP always been your supplier at this flat or have you switched suppliers along the way ? If so when

Look back at your bills - when was last one which had readings with the letter A for Actual or C for Consumer on or are they all E for estimate.

Whilst looking at your bill - what tariff are you on. ?

A picture would be good - use Cakecrusaders tip - make sure you blank out your name and address and account number.
