Firstplus...how do I confirm the broker if there was one?

Good morning,
We had a secured loan with Firstplus which had PPI in Oct 2005 (I have an agreement number and a PPI policy number). We received a letter from a claims company (which we don't plan to use) that said we were sold the loan through a broker....a more recent letter from them states the broker was Promise Finance. We did use Promise Finance in 2007 but I have no evidence of this in 2005. My questions are....
How likely is it that this info is correct...to date, they have written 3 times and provided me with the missing info I potentially need to claim on my own without using them?
Secondly, I believe I would need to claim via the FSCS, if I provide them with the wrong broker (which I may not find out until after the PPI deadline) is any claim then dead in the water thereafter or would they just correct the broker info?
Many thanks

Its likely that it is the case. A lot of these CMC contacts employ people that used to work at the broker or the lender and they have lists of people that. Its unlawful but it happens. We cannot say that is the case here but it does for it terms of probability as no CMC would be able to tell who the broker is unless they have inside information.Secondly, I believe I would need to claim via the FSCS, if I provide them with the wrong broker (which I may not find out until after the PPI deadline) is any claim then dead in the water thereafter or would they just correct the broker info?
The FSCS only apply if the broker is no longer trading.0
