Contents only insurance

Hi does anyone pay for insurance for taking things out of the house.

I need contents only insurance and they have an option of taking things out of the house insurance. It’s £20 extra. Would you pay for that or not?

  • Depends if people want cover for things outside of the house!

Your wallet/purse, mobile, specs, any bag, any watch or jewellery... all covered under the personal possessions cover.

Your laptop, your iPad, your camera... do you want them to be covered if they are stolen, lost or damaged outside the home?

There's no right or wrong answer. Some people are happy to take the risk of having to replace individual items, even expensive ones, and see contents insurance as a last resort for a disaster like their house burning down in which they lose everything. They would probably be happy to go without cover for their laptop etc outside the home. Other people would not be able to afford to replace an expensive piece of jewellery or a laptop... for then £20 may be a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Yes they do. Most insurance policies include this as an add-on.

I never used to have it when I was younger. However, I added it for the first time last year sue to the number of items I have that need covering when outside of the home. It added about £300 a year to my policy but it was worth it.

it is very much an individual thing based on your circumstances.

Also take into account that if you claim, you'll have to pay the excess, plus you'll probably have to pay higher premiums for 3 to 5 years.

So if you're the kind of person to have a fairly cheap mobile, fairly cheap watch, costume jewellery etc - maybe it won't be financially sensible to claim for them anyway.

    Here's a top tip:

When you want to copy information from another website, you can use something called "copy and paste".

It's faster, and there won't be any typing mistakes. I'll demonstrate for you:
    What is contents insurance?
This type of insurance covers loss or damage to all the things in your home which are not part of the structure or the building.

    How much is contents insurance?
According to research from the ABI (2017), the average contents insurance policy costs £139 a year.

    What does contents insurance cover?
All your personal belongings – in other words anything not physically attached to the building – will usually be covered for loss or damage.

    This generally includes:

    clothing
    furniture
    jewellery
    electrical goods.

    Here's the next top tip:

Don't copy irrelevant information from other websites into threads. It's a very strange thing to do.

OP do you have anything that you would or likely to take out of the home ? eg a mobile, laptop.

If it were me Id seriously consider adding it, loads of people pay for mobile insurance, I don't as I can cover the cost of 1 and to date Ive not lost 1 nor had 1 stolen. I put what would be the monthly/yearly payments into an account and use that for a new phone.

Though another top tip is that if you make enough pointless irrelevant posts in random threads with stuff that you copied from some website, soon enough your post count will be high enough to post links. I'm sure we're all really excited to think of reading the sort of links we can expect these sort of accounts to post.

I reckon it is a bot, as every single post is ungrammatic cut and pastes of basic info in insurance. Report it as spam, so it can be blocked.
