O/S Daily Sunday 25th August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

  • Morning all,

Sending big squidgy hugs to all those who want/need them. Up at the crack of dawn to go for a hack and poo pick the fields as is set to be another scorcher so thought I would make the most of the cool end of the morning. Yesterday was so chilled - perfect start to the long weekend with an early morning hack and then a spa day. Popped out of the spa at lunch time and went and met a friend and her 2 week old baby ... soooooo cute! Had a picnic at the stables and then went back to the spa with OH and sat in the hot tub for an hour in the evening. It was perfect on such a hot day. When we got home he made us tuna and feta omelettes with a side sald. Our chickens are firing eggs out at the moment and I want to make the most of it but at the same time don't know what to do with them all! I saw a thread on this board that might help so will revisit it. I know you're supposed to be able to freeze them if you separate the white and yolk but that doesn't sit right for me somehow. I am thinking cakes and toad in the hole but apart from that any ideas on how I can prep them to freeze would be gratefully received. DD1 visiting for a couple of days so looking forward to spending time with her today. We have been invited to a couple of bbq's so think we will make the most of that and head to the one that's within walking distance. Cheese and crackers for tea if we have got any room left.

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Morning everyone

SH77 - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself are enjoying first cuppas, he's watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and just finished my porridge. DS1 still in his pit, he's going out tonight and staying in a hotel - so will see him some time tomorrow. DS2 settled and ok.

Bright, sunny start to the day - warm already.

Dinner last night was hot quiche, pork pie, scotch egg, cheese, side salad, skinny chips and coleslaw - was lovely. Today we're going to visit mum and dad as they are still away in their caravan - we're supposed to be going out for lunch - hopefully dad has managed to book somewhere which he was organising. Once we get back we'll just chill.

Picked up our new to us car - it's lovely - we'll see how it runs today as it's 30 or so miles to where we're going. It's low mileage and very clean and tidy we bought it from our local garage that we use all the time and this car was from someone who only deals with them too.

    Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Smallholding.

I've been up for a couple of hours, just pottering really, reading while knitting a baby cardigan.

Yesterday I pottered all day, dis some weeding and was going to cut the grass but sone animal, I think a fox, has left poo in the back and front garden and feeble though it may seem, I couldn't face clearing it up. Will have to do it today.

It is our wedding anniversary today, 35 years.

Back to pottering now and I hope that everyone has as good a day as possible.

Morning folks and thanks SH for starting us off. It's forecast to be even hotter today - 27 deg and all day sun. I doubt I shall be tackling anything too taxing in that heat.

I need to strip my bed and those of the DGDs but will do one bed a day I think . No rush for theirs as they are not sleeping this week with being at the 'van so will do mine first. There will be the usual battle of me versus the SK duvet later.

Well the Dr wasn't kidding when she said it would be a 2/3 month wait for a hospital appointment about my painful legs. I got the appointment yesterday for the 4th November!! The painkillers she prescribed are no help whatsoever so I shall request a telephone appt after the Bank Holiday and see if she can offer an alternative.

I have got a right fancy for a tuna mayo jacket spud so that, with a plate of salad, will do nicely for my lunch. Followed by the remains of the strawberries still in the fridge.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Hi to absent friends. Take care all xx

Editing to add Happy Anniversary wishes to Mr and Mrs AOD. Have a good day!!

  • Good morning, looks to be another good day out there.

Thanks for starting Smallholding 77, sounds as if you had a busy, but lovely day yesterday!!

We were busy at home yesterday, went shopping to L*dl for a change, and did quite a big shop . I got meat packs and portioned them, they're now in the freezer. I usually buy meat either at the butchers, or Morries, but thought I'd give L*dl meat a try.

The curtains are ready to go up in the sitting room, I'll do it today. I didn't want to put them up until we'd cleaned the windows but that's now done.

The msn who services our boiler was supposed to come yesterday morning to give the gas fire a clean out (he'd forgotten about it once already this was the second attempt). He was going to take it to bits and give it a good clean. He'd already looked at it when he serviced the boiler and said it was safe and passed whatever tests they have to pass.

Any way he did come , but thought he was just giving it a safety test, which he'd already done, so I had to remind him what he was going to do - he didn't have time and didn't have his vacuum so couldn't do it!!

He said he'd come on Tuesday afternoon - we weren't best pleased, but are hoping it'll be 3rd time lucky!! He's normally very good, so we'll see,

I gave the fridge a good clean out as well, it's a built in, built under, so not the largest, I curse it at times. It's done anyway.

Just messing about today I think, might get out for a walk. We are definitely going out tomorrow to visit some gardens a few miles away. We like visiting gardens so that should be nice.

Enough of my waffle - hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
Thinking of the sad and poorly.
    Take care folks xxx

    Morning all,

Popping on to say hi to everyone and have a catch up.

Life carries on much the same as always, both the animals are well although Lu is very lethargic in the current warm temperatures and is happy to forget schooling to just have a walk around the shadier part of the forest. Tilly had a sharp haircut a few weeks ago so is managing to stay cool.
We have both my DSS’s coming for lunch today plus maybe a gf or two so will be good to see them, it’s meant to be very hot here again so it will be meat & salads etc as don’t fancy doing a full roast!

Happy Anniversary to Mr & Mrs AOD, love to all and enjoy your BH weekend x

Thank you for starting us off Smallholding 77

Happy Anniversary wishes Mr and Mrs AOD, have a lovely day.

Not doing much these days, too hot.

Still haven't seen or heard from DS , DiL, sent them a message but no answer, maybe they are away.

Salad again today, we have so many tomatoes growing in the garden.

    Take care

    Morning All

The sun is shining, the washing is out and some more has been done on the deck.

Yesterday was exhausting, sanded and painted the bedroom at DDs, going back to do the last coat today. I had to teach DDs partner how to use a paint roller!

    Happy Anniversary TA
    Enjoy your new car nmlc.

Have a good Sunday, take care. XX
  • Sunday breakfast in bed as usual. Sun has just put his hat on. OH is going out to put wood preservative on our garden table and chairs before the sun moves round to the back.

I need to strip the hall dresser and give it a good clean. Found a spiders we'd between it and the wall the other day so a clean is due.

Happy anniversary to Mr and Mrs AOD.

Roast pork for supper with veg etc, banana for dessert.

    Good morning all.

Phew...I woke in the night feeling so hot and now it's already blazing outside.

Had a busy day yesterday so was glad to hit my bed. Today I'll set DM up and then get myself out of the house. The tentative plans for me to get home for at least an overnight visit keep being thwarted because of appointments. Whilst Tuesday / Wednesday would be possible this week the roads are busy with English visitors heading back home for the start of the school term. Next week will do, meanwhile I'll keep exploring private respite.

As DM is so whimsical with her food I'm not stocking up once a week, rather I'm going to only buy for two days. That way I can vary things more, adapt to her 'fancies' and make sure I go out!

Happy anniversary to Mr and Mr AOD.:j

Camelot - it's a hot day for painting, hopefully it'll dry fast so you can enjoy the garden more.

Lainey - enjoy your family gathering.

Scarlet - what a blooming nuisance, it's a pain when things get held up.

Thoughts to those struggling with family and life and everything.

    Happy Sunday to all.
