Virgin media price increase, mid contract

Options
Hello all.

I'm looking for some advice on my Virgin Media contract. I signed up for a bundle in April 2019 for a set price of £41 for duration of 12 months. I just received a letter informing me that there would be a £3.50 price increase in October 2019, which is halfway through the contract.

My question is: if I signed up for 12 months at £41 per month, are they allowed to increase the price half way though like that?

It would be great to hear if any of you have had similar experiences and if there was anything you could do about it.

Thanks.

Key fact is that you agreed to this when signing up .
    Terms and conditions .
Under OFCOM rules if you have been notified then you have 30 days to tell VM you want to leave penalty free .

    Ok. Thanks for your reply.

So annoying. We can’t leave without penalty, but they can up the price when they like. What a joke.

I think you can leave within 30 Days
Hopefully they will do you a deal which you need to carefully check.

Have a backup plan though and also to quote at them

Note its the same for many ISPs

. BT have now moved to a built in price increase every year based upon RPI and thats what you agree to .

    Vodafone are the same.

It usually amounts to pence per year/month rather than a couple of quid! Or more.

The pence does build up over 3 years though.
  • I had a similar email. It definitely said I could leave penalty free if I didn’t want to pay the increase.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm expecting a callback from the VM complaints team.
