Cheap credit card for car insurance

Options
i can buy car insurance for my son with Ecar for £1200 he is 18 on the 28th nov. with ecar they want the money up front, one payment.

other car insurance are around £1400 but when you pay monthly installments there is a small apr charge so the insurance goes up a few hundred quid.

one way to save money is by getting the ecar insurance and paying on credit card and paying off the £1200 over the year.

so im looking for a card that will save my son some money.

suggestions please

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't see how paying it off over the year by credit card would save him money?

The cheapest quote doesn't allow monthly instalments.

The next best quote is £200 more expensive, and makes a further charge on top for monthly instalments.

A 0% on purchases card gets the best of both worlds. :)

OP, for the longest 0% on purchases cards check out www.stoozing.com/purchases.htm

A word of warning though, make sure you tell the insurers that this is a one-off transaction and that they are not to renew next year using this card's details...and preferably make your request in writing.

Ah, I see, so it doesn't actually save him money overall, just saves him from having to pay the lump sum all at once (unless you count interest earned while money is in savings account or whatever)... gotcha :)

yes it will save money, as ive said ecar is a one off yearly payment of £1200. the next best option is with kwik fit insurance which is £1490, but you can pay monthly installments, but, you are really taking out a loan to do it this way. my son would have to pay a deposit of £209, then pay around £150 per month over 11 months.

he hasnt got £1200 available cash to pay ecar which is the best option, so if he could get a credit card with 0% he would only have to pay the £1200 back and no interest.

Its very unlikely an 18 year old (presumably with no credit history) will get a 0% credit card or indeed one with a credit limit of 1200.

His best option is the bank of mum and dad or if one of his parents take out a 0% CC and he pays them off.

there is no problem at all, my sons wages are paid into bank. HSBC will go ahead also RBS where his wages go.

But...that's what I just said. *scratches head* It's not actually saving him anything off the £1200, he will stil lhave to pay £1200, it just means that he can pay it over time instead of having to find the lump sum right now.

Anyways, no matter. :) Will RBS and HSBC offer him a 0% card then?
