I'm a complete newbie to UC and haven't even had my first payment yet but i am worried i have done something stupid. I've been waiting nearly a month now for the first payment and i recently heard about 'more frequent payments'.

It is paid in arrears monthly, if you have asked for payments every two weeks I believe you will receive a payment for two weeks on 1st September and then the same two weeks later, you cannot be paid more than that months worth because the rest will not be due until 1st October so in practice your payments will be 4 and six weeks in arrears in future.

I am surprised they agreed to it so readily actually.

The OP is probably in Scotland
    Scottish choices

The Universal Credit Scottish choices give people living in Scotland the option of:

being paid Universal Credit twice a month rather than monthly
having their Universal Credit housing element being paid directly to their landlords

The Universal Credit Scottish choices have been available to people making new claims in full service Universal Credit areas since 4 October 2017, and were extended to everyone receiving Universal Credit from 31 January 2018. The Department for Work and Pensions deliver the Universal Credit Scottish choices on our behalf.

  • These probably should of been questions you asked before altering payment schedules to avoid situations like this.

The default way it works in NI is that you get two payments in each AP and yeah, it’s half of your entitlement one week after the AP is over, then the remainder roughly two weeks later.

I’m not sure what I would choose if I had the option. I guess that as all my bills are monthly I’d prefer it all up front.
