Ant Indurance PPI

Options
I know I’ve left it late!

I had income protection with Ant Insurance, I’ve been self employed for 20 odd years, I’ve only just read that half of these companies would not have paid out to self employed people.

Two questions.

What happened to Ant Insurance, can’t find any details of them.

Is it worth pursuing a claim on the basis I was self employed and they wouldn’t have paid out.

Thanks

    How did you buy it?

Is/was it Accident Sickness Unemployment cover ASU (PPI) or is/was it a form of Permanent Health Insurance?

How do/did you pay for it, if DD who is/was the payee?

Ant insurance was mostly bought via comparison sites or direct. Ant did buy a few smaller providers that may have had a different distribution.

If you bought direct then you cannot complain you were missold as you bought it. it wasnt sold to you.

Ant insurance also mostly did standalone regular premium PPI/MPPI. i.e. the good type of PPI that you can still buy today. Most standalone PPI/MPPI do cover the self employed.

So, we need more information. When was it bought? How was it bought? (these two are important as its probably pre-regulation and possibly non-advised).

I paid by DD, found it mentioned on these boards years ago Bt Martin as a cheaper alternative to mortgage PPI.

I saw an “expert” on TV yesterday say even if you knew you had it, you could still claim if you were self employed and the policy didn’t cover self employed. I can’t find any documentation for the policy, so I don’t know if they did or didn’t cover self employed. And there is no trace of the company anywhere on the web.

In which case you complain to Martin Lewis or yourself.

Ok, joking aside, you have no-one to complain to as you bought it and it was not sold to you.

Most PPI covers the self-employed perfectly fine. However, a large minority (mainly loan PPI and some credit card PPI) did not cover self-employed correctly. When it is sold to you, the seller has a requirement to make sure you are eligible. However, it was not sold to you. You bought it. So, there was no seller or advice. Although its likely that as it was a standalone plan, it would have covered the self employed

Bottom line, you have no complaint to make.

Cheers all, saved me the hassle of making a claim. I’m the only person I know who hasn’t made a PPI claim .

Most people in the country never had PPI.
Those that did have it tended to have it multiple times.
Not all types of PPI are missold. The two main types that are more often not missold are MPPI and regular contribution PPI (yours was one of these)

So, be happy. Its better not to have redress as nothing wrong was done rather than get redress because of a wrongdoing.
