Furious with SKY

On monday my mother-in-law took a phone call message from British Gas they said they'd call back.

I have just had a phone call from "Sky" - that's exactly whay they said "I'm calling from Sky".

She went on to say they have "joined partners with British Gas and would I be interested.....". I interupted and said no thanks!

She then said something very odd - "Have you had a bad experience with us?", I said "Who? Sky?", "No" she said "British Gas".

I then said "No I'm definitely not interested - Bye".

I then did 1471 and came up with the number 08000180888. I checked the number on tinternet and found it belonged to a company called 'CPM UK Ltd' - Not Sky or BG.

First question - I am convinced that I ticked the box that said "no third party communications, etc". How do I check that?

Second question - Can I redress Sky for this in the event I did tick the box?

Third question - Can I report CPM UK for mis-leading me about who they were?

Fourth question - How do I do all of the above?

Thanks.

Steve.

CPM will be working on behalf of Sky as they use 3rd party companys for marketing calls, so they are not misleading you as they will be working on behalf of Sky.
  • Just the same I wouldnt be giving details to any of these companys.
A few years ago I worked for a telesales team but only stayed the day.
We were selling mobile phones and cold calling. I over heard the experienced operators saying they are ringing on behalf of sky regarding a superb mobile phone offer.
The company,s offer had nothing to do with sky.
Yes CPM are a marketing company but you never know who you are speaking to when someone cold calls.
I have been cold called by sky but they know details about my account and viewing details or packages and then I have trusted thir authenticity.
  •
I think British gas could be running some phone line and broadband offer with sky possibly.

BGas have joined up with them. Others have reported it on the gas/elec board.

CPM will be the outsourced sales company which is what many utilities do thesedays.

Just don't agree to anything until you have checked that you really want a service for your gas&elec. Remember, they can register you verbally over the phone and change your Suppliers if you agree to them.

My OH had a call on his mobile the other day - 'Hi, is that Mr KittyKate?' when he said yes, they replied 'OK, we would like to discuss your SKY account, please can you confirm your full name, DOB and address?'

He said 'why do you want me to prove who I am? You've just called my mobile, who are YOU?' 'I'm from SKY' 'Well I don't care who you are, I'm not giving a stranger my details on an incoming call' 'well Mr KittyKate we can't proceed with the call' 'fine!! I didn't want you to call me in the first place!!'

(It would be much easier to reply if you didn't have so many font tags in your posts!)
First - keep a copy/note of the form. If you didn't, call your Sky cust.serv.no and ask. If you're not, ask to be taken off the 3rd-party lists now.
Second - maybe, if they say they passed it on and you hadn't consented. That's probably something to tell the Information Commissioner about.
Third - I think so, even if Sky passed your info on. If you've no relationship with CPM and your number is on the Telephone Preference Service, you can report them on TPSonline.
    Hope that helps!
