O/Style Daily Friday 23 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light cloud and sun trying to break through to start the day here, but forecast is for dry, sunny and warm.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash and veg - was very tasty and clean plates all round. Not sure what we will be eating later but will organise when I'm in the SM doing the food shopping.

Yesterday I did get a light housework done, our bed linen stripped, washed and line dried. I put a different set on, and the newly washed and dried is airing in the airing cupboard. It was an good washing day as it was sunny and quite blustery so everything line dried. I have some ironing to do today and will endeavour to do some kitchen cleaning/sorting of cupboards.

The engineer is coming today to assess what needs to happen to the garage door. Wasn't happy yesterday as I rang to check they were still coming as the appointment was booked so long ago and was the first they could give me and it turns out the engineer is unwell and they didn't know what was happening. They have fitted me in with someone else at a different time but still today - I'm more than happy with that but desperately hoping he doesn't say a whole new door as it's a lot of money and I don't think it needs it. We'll see, I have found another local company - so if I'm not happy I'll approach them for a quote also, thinking that as the existing company seem to either be so busy or their working practices are not working very well - I'm not sure how reliable they will be if I give them the work - or how long it will take them. Possibly be good to get a comparison quote from elsewhere.

I'll crack on with the jobs I want to get done at my pace.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

I think I slept too heavily last night, can't seem to wake up this morning. Ah well, it's Friday so not all bad. It's been a busy week at work but I got a very big job finished yesterday so can rest about that one.

The decking has been started! It's a lot higher than I thought but I'll just be glad to have it done. We are forecast a decent day so hopefully work will crack on today. Also the front gate has been fixed, didn't expect that for a few weeks!

    Happy Friday, take care. XX

Nice bright day here again and set in for the day I think, Its meant to be a really nice long weekend too which will be lovely, I have worked the last two bank holidays so I am really looking forward to it.

Weighed myself this morning and no loss this week but none put on either which is good, hopefully I will see a loss next week.

Got some salmon for dinner tonight will do OH some new pots with it and a big salad a nice easy dinner.

Will leave the housework till tomorrow morning when OH and I will do half each.

I also ordered new curtains for my conservatory which arrived yesterday I need to pin then up though and take them round to my mums and she will sew then for me, they are too long but are very nice and make a big difference out there, It seems much more cosy now.

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Sunny and warm here too and we have no more rain forecast until Wednesday - if we can believe that!

The DGDs are all still in the land of nod and hopefully will remain so for a while. I had a rubbish night with my b****y painful legs waking me up. I wonder if I could swathe both my legs in the HB blue bandages like an Egyptian mummy!! The Friday Tidy will be delayed with the girls here but they are due to leave after lunch so I may make an effort and start then - or I may not! They are all off to the caravan for the last week of the school holidays. I finished the replacement sun lounger covers yesterday and DD is very impressed with them. So they are going with them and she hopes to make full use of them in view of the good forecast!

She asked if I wanted to go with them but I think I deserve a peaceful week to myself, as this week has been a bit manic with all the minding etc.

The young couple next door are finally moving in this w/e. They have been doing it up since Easter. Everything has been replaced, re-wired and decorated throughout. It will put my house to shame, it will be like a palace. It will feel strange having neighbours again after the house stood empty so long.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Hi to the MIA. Take care all xx

  • Good morning, it's a nice fine morning, hope it continues.

I've just put a wash load in, so hope to get them out soon.

I was busy at home all day yesterday, except for about an hour when I nipped to the bank, and went into Morries.

Today, I'm going to D*nelm for a browse, and that's it really. Going to a friends tonight, there hasn't been a Friday friends night for a while because we've all been away.

Sounds as if your sun lounger covers turned out well TA.

That's it - I seem to lead a pretty boring life. Hey ho.

Thinking of the sad and poorly and those struggling with life.

    Take care folks xx
  • Good morning everyone,

    Happy Friday!

Yesterday went as planned. Work, then the gym, then my weekly catch up with my gran then the footie. Bed for 10.30 and probably sleeping by 10.35.

Gym this morning and early in work as I'll be leaving sharp to make my way back up to Glasgow for the weekend. My cousins 30th on Saturday is the reason so I'll make other plans around that. No plans to spend heavily, which I'd like to try and keep to if I can.

TA - Good luck with the new neighbours!

Good morning, I can't get this *&$#@% ₩ tooth back in. Took me several tries to get it out at bedtime. I'll wait while my bravery store refills and try again.

In other news, fascinatingly, I have a load of towels in the washing machine and the house is a right pit.

Think will just give up and knit some baby clothes.

    Well done Lee!

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's very warm and sunny here too this morning, after all the dire forecasts for the weekend it is nice to see they are wrong.

Steve has left for his last day in work before his week off. He is very tired and looking forward to just being able to stay in bed past 5am. I am so happy to have him home with me. I think Phoebe has work today but I am not sure when and Lilly is working tonight again.

I will put a chicken in to roast and then strip it and make a chicken and bacon pie for dinner. The shopping came last night so the fridge has food in it again :).

AOD, oh no, I hope you manage to get your tooth back in. Knitting sounds much more preferable to tidying up xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all from a sunny Mehefinland

Well stevie 2 shoes managed to get replacement shoe on Bruisemare with much effort, pain relief and copious application of polos. She was a right madam but I know she is in discomfort so allowances were made.

She seemed so much more comfortable with the shoe on correctly ( albeit only held on be 2 nails, so we bandaged it to keep the muck out of the poorly bit). Let her and scoobymare out in the paddock for a while and then the saga really began. We had put some old rubber matting down over the concrete to protect her feet and the two of them were fine going out over it. But when it came time to come in there was a big scary monster in the barn and we aren't going anywhere near it.

For a mare who was dead lame on Sunday she couldn't half move when it suited her ( pain relief and adrenaline no doubt) and the pair of them when whizzing around the paddock. It took us nearly an hour to get them back in the barn ( and that was after we had removed the rubber, unsuccessfully enticed them with food etc. Eventualy we just herded them with a piece of electric fence tape and they shot in and into their correct boxes. Much huffing and puffing all around, and quite sweaty too !!
This morning its ooh me foot again !

The saga with DS and miss Toxic continues apace. Never seen him look so much like a zombie - she is relentless. Hopefully its crunch time this weekend. We are exhausted with it all and with all the stress with Bruisemare's condition we are all near breaking point.

Sorry for the doom and gloom folks.

Right, off to pick up and distribute some of the loads of windfall pears.
    Hugs and spoons as always.

After my day of R&R yesterday and lots of mindless film watching on netflix :D I feel not quite so sore and stiff but I shall still take things slowly today.
The WM is on and there is another load waiting in the wings. I need to strip the bed later and hopefully wash the bedding but the skies are still very grey looking :(. Where's my sunshine ? Anything else done today will be a bonus. I have no idea what to do for tea either, although there is some gammon leftover from yesterday . Maybe an omelette with gammon ?
Mr Fix It is on the X box on a Fortnite building programme and DGS is at his home doing the same. When they are finished they are going to make a film apparently. All I can say is that the DGS has a far greater imagination than Mr Fix It . Oh to be young and unsullied by life experiences.
Anyway the WM has finished so I will hang it outside and hope the sun shows itself at some point today .
    Take care all.
    nan xx
