Barclays Bank credit search.

In early October I applied for a current account with Barclays and I see from my credit file they credit checked me. However I did not return the completed form back to them until 15/11 and see they have carried out another credit check. Does anyone know is this normal practice. I also add I did not require any credit facilities and the only reason I applied to them so I could view my Barclays ISA online.

  • I can't speak about Barclays but some searches drop off after a month so they would have to redo it.
It's the only explanation I can think of.

When I applied for the same in early 2006, Barclays searched me on the day of application, and again 10 days later. There were no delays involved in my application, nor was there an overdraft facility requested.

Both searches were labelled "Search Type: Current Account".

Alliance & Leicester did the same, at around the same time, and as I recall, my credit rating at the time didn't suffer (and affect applications for credit cards) as a result. Maybe current account searches aren't viewed as negatively as credit card searches by the lenders?

Just an update. I put in a query with Credit Expert and they have contacted Barclays Bank and I have been advised Barclays have agreed to the later credit search to be removed as done in error. Also Credit Expert said that a current account search is on par with a credit card search. Hence the reason I was keen to get it removed.
  • Still awaiting my Experian PIN code...

However, in the meanwhile I checked my latest Equifax report and it is showing two of my current accounts. I didn't think current accounts were shown on credit reports?

Depending on what bank you are with. My Lloydtsb current account does not show but Cahoot and Smile do.
