Ring Doorbell Pro Night Vision

Hey, new here...

We have had a Ring Video Doorbell Pro since Christmas 2018 and had an amazing experience with it for the first six months. It worked brilliantly in night mode too, and the faces it saw were crystal clear, almost like in day.
However we've had to get it replaced (fab customer service on Ring's end) and installed the new doorbell to find that the night vision mode was awful! We actually have just demanded a new one, convicted there must be a fault with it. But alas, the new new one is just the same, with a really poor night vision mode.

Has anyone got any light to shed on this? Why had our original camera almost not sensed night time, and provided an excellent night vision mode, yet the new ones (and clearly the correctly functioning ones) are so poor?

I have screen shots but as a new user I am unable to post these!
