Weekly Wage Cap?

Is it normal/acceptable/legal for a company to offer a redundancy package with 1 or 1.5 weeks pay per year of employment (depending on age) but add it will be up to a maximum of £XX per week regardless of amount actually earned?

    The statutory cap since April 2019 is £525pw. Up to 20yeats service.
