Just an interesting news article from Glasgow about cars being clamped and bank accounts being arrested for recovery of unpaid fines.

Is this uniquely Scottish parlance? I thought it was individuals who were arrested; accounts are frozen/blocked/restricted and assets are seized/confiscated. No?: )0

It is Flobberchops. Many years ago I worked in payroll (Edinburgh company) and they came in quite regularly. We'd to deduct funds from the employee's wages and send it to whoever had served the order. I feel sure, at that time, the amount taken depended on how much the individual earned but that may have changed. I think elsewhere it is known as an Attachment Order?
Being honest I didn't know they could also be used to freeze a bank account but just checked and they can.0 -
They are known as bank arrestments.Did you mean arrest rather than freeze?
See the link below. Just above the comments they say that it is the funds that are arrested not the account.

This second link is perhaps more comprehensive. However the term is not used adjectively or verbally anywhere on the page.

Thanks to Colsten and RG2015. It was the second link I looked at last night in which it said 'The Fine Enforcement Officer can serve an arrestment on your bank or building society which may result in the funds held in your account being frozen.' It really was a new one on me as I'd only ever dealt with them against employee wages.
Being honest they were a real pain as there had to be a comprehensive admin system to control it all then remit the deductions out. Like most places in those days we had no computer system and everything was recorded in ledgers. Plus, and understandably, we got it in the neck from those whose wages were affected.
I'm not even going down the road of dealing with arrestments which were conjoined!0 -
I'd never heard of the term either. Seems that accounts are frozen until voluntary payment is made or the 14 weeks elapsed for mandatory payment.
Also seems very effective!
I posted the article as there are often posts here about frozen accounts, it's another option along with suspected ML or fraud.0 -

Scots Law has different enforcement action than English/Welsh Law.
A Garnishee Order would be a south of the border equivalent. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
