Moved to where? Another job? This is a professional occupation and my friend is coming to the end of her long career. If she resigned, she would simply 'retire', although she is not that near to official retirement age.
Thinking about it now, that was an issue with her LM a few months ago when she cut her hours to a 3 day week at the same time that I did. My LM was extremely supportive, as were HR, her LM was obstructive ( knowing how much she relied on her) until she contacted HR directly and they stepped in to facilitate the change.
I think that Her LM was jealous that my friend could afford to cut her hours and she couldn't.0 -

Difficult, as she is a specialist in her field and no one else is. Her other team member works in a completely different area. It is a complex set up, she troubleshoots for other managers when on secondment but couldn't be placed there permanently without it causing an issue for her 'home' base.0 -
Nominating somebody for an award because they have been going through a tough time at home sounds like a very nice thing to do.
If this person has been working hard despite difficult circumstances at home she absolutely does deserve an award for her commitment !!!!
When others get an award, most people just think "well done" and get on with their lives. The award is just supposed to be a nice gesture, nothing more.
It sounds to me like your friend is being nasty and petty.
The suggestion that the LM was somehow motivated to give the award to this person out of jealousy over your friend's home life is ridiculous. It's also really offensive - I hope your friend doesn't make that accusation to the LM.0 -
There is no retirement age in the UK it was abolished in 2011.0

I can see how that might be a perception based on no personal knowledge of the personalities.
However, I think that you have to know the people involved to make a judgment such as the one you are making. I do know them both and my friend is neither petty nor nasty, if she was she has told me about many incidents where she could have made an official complaint about her LM ( as others have done)but she has always given her the benefit of the doubt as she considers her inept/bumbling and not malicious.
Also, her LM has openly said to others (in front of my friend)that she is jealous, she hasn't hidden it. It is something of an office joke, but it is clearly true.getmore4less wrote: »There is no retirement age in the UK it was abolished in 2011.

Seriously, what sort of adult throws a tantrum because a colleague gets an award?
Some might say she’s being over sensitive. I think uncharitable might be a better fit. I wonder if it’s crossed her mind that her reaction has probably soured what should be positive event for her colleague.0 -

That hasn't happened. My friend was very quick to congratulate her and very sincerely as she doesn't in any way blame her, why would she?
It isn't that she doesn't think that she deserves an award for doing her job well, it is more that she doesn't believe that any issue other than doing your job well should be a factor.0 -
Do something about it or shut up! Your ‘friend’ doesn’t sound like an employee I’d nominate either - if she’s that good and going on secondment surely the other managers would have nominated her.
Look at it from the line manager’s view - someone who is difficult, always going off to do some other job in other teams, leaving her short and belly aching to others.
If she feels that she’s being picked on etc then lodged a grievance - if she’s so well thought of then I’m sure it will go in her favour?0
