From what I believe you should always congratulate and reward a cat for bringing in meals as they only do it to contribute toward the 'home'.. We have been lucky so far but she is still young!

As for mice traps, B&Q do quite a good humane trap for about £7.

mine always catch them, bring them in and dump them on the living room rug.....................also lost count of the amount of times have been running round the house trying to catch live mice who have managed to escape the jaws. Was quite relievd when my youngest started bring home chicken legs instead, occasionally still in the wrappers, not too sure the person whose tea he was stealing would have been too happy though

I found one of the mice dead this morning - I trod on it bleary-eyed and assumed it was a discarded sock, but my boy had thoughtfully left it by my desk.

My mother's cats once brought back some mackrel from the holiday cottage next door.

One brought one fish and the other brought back another 3 in a plastic carrier bag. The family staying there at the time had just been fishing and had just caught the 4 fish. The must have been very surpised to find that they had grown legs and walked!

My mother couldn't retrieve the one on its own as the cat had chewed it beyond what was reasonable to return, so she offered to smoke the other 3 for them.

Previously the smaller female had brought back a joint from the same house. Different people were staying there.

The cats didn't have to catch live prey when they could go and help themselves to ready slaughtered scoff.

  • All of these stories are fantastic reasons why I won't get a cat flap....... mine can both get into the shed and its cosy enough in there ! They do come in the house but only with nothing in their mouths !

Have been in the situation however when I have had to grapple with living birds and deceased ones too inside (summer), still get a load on the patio

  • i would never let my cat wear a collar with a bell on it.

It must drive the cats mad having the continuous ringing noise whenever they move.

We're not going to get collars; we're going to stick with vets advice (although I appreciate the recommendations on here). The mouse problem has died down; we found two more corpses while doing housework a few days ago, but haven't spotted any more mice at all.

Every few months in Clapham, London SW4, there is a mini outbreak of mice being over active in this area.

At the moment it is particularly bad. Is there anyone else in the SW4 area, say Clapham North, Clapham Common and Clapham South who is also experiencing this problem??

Haha- it's amazing what stories you end up with when you're having a quick skim through a thread!!:rotfl:

My tuppence to the mouse thing- thankfully our present cat only does mice, and leaves them either headless or bumless:eek: on the grass in the back garden, or on the path- it's easy to grab a shopping bag and lift it straight into the outside bin.

Our last cat brought in a few live birds- which crapped all over the kitchen windows- this would happen two days after I'd cleaned them all- all 10 of them!!

I read somewhere that if you play catch' and hunting games with your cat it can help to satisfy their hunting instincts, and make them less likely to hunt outdoors.

You can also buy an ultrasonic device that deters pests, and prop the cat flap open to let them leave easily. Although house mice can squeeze through any hoel a bic ballpoint pen can fit in- incredible, eh?

my cat does the same thing, worse so at night so I try and keep him in as it starts getting dark. He usually brings them in dead but sometimes I think he thinks if he puts them in his bed he can play with the later.. horrible little animal...
I have 3 cats altogether.. the 2 girls haven't caught anything in their lives yet Trevor the boy goes for anything and everything.. While I have been writing this (have stopped and started for nearly an hour thanks to Trevor) he has caught his first rat!!!! yes a rat!!!! luckly was dead yet he still brought it it and tried to hide it under the table.. He's never caught such a big thing before.. I had to phone my dad up who lives nearby to come and move it for me! lol
He once dragged home a dead rabbit too but couldn't get it through the cat flap.. this had been dead some time though...
He has also eaten the little mice/shrews he's caught and vomited them back up.. sometimes only heads or bits of bodies too!
Yes.. Trevor is a horrible horrible cat.. makes me wonder why I actualy have him here living with us lol
