Why not both agree to building half a wet room? A damp room maybe.

I did not think there was a suggestion less helpful than mine, Slithery; thanks for correcting me... Where's the grin icon gone?

Asking for help and to know where I stand. I have owned a property with my sister, we have lived here quite happily for the last twenty years.......

HOW have you owned the property with sister - are (just) both your names on Land registry deeds, please? If so, joint tenants or tenants in common?

Time for one of you to buy the other one out and to live in separate buildings.. I think.

    Good luck.

Yes both names are on the deeds, joint tennants. I do hope it won't be necessary for us to move into separate properties.

It's difficult to know because bot arguments are correct. It's her property and it's my property. Do I have the right to say no and does she have the right to say yes. It's difficult to know legally where either stand.

Does your sister need this wet room to assist a disability? If it's just a "want" what reasoning is she giving for wanting it?

Long legged hair - what's the answer to this question?

It depends on the overall layout.... but, you might as well just get it done if it doesn't create an "odd house".

You never know when you'll be breaking a leg.

Who knows, once it's there, you might wonder why you'd not done it years ago.

I am just recovering from a hip replacement and am thanking God that we have a walk in shower - no way I could have stepped over the bath for a shower or squeezed into a small cubicle.

    1) you can write (yes WRITE) to the builder informing him you are joint owner and you do not agee to the work being done. Apologise to him for his trouble, but instruct him that if he makes a start on the job (eg in your absence) you will a) obtain a court order instructing him to stop
    b) claim your costs to put back whatever work he's done to re-instate the original property
I would not have suggested this unless you could follow through.

    Toss a coin.
If you lose, go on holiday while the work is done.
    Who is paying for it?
